Cleaning out sewer and drain lines using high-pressure water is part of the complete range of environmental services provided by Mid-State Industrial.
Before the heavy rains season here in Oregon, Mid-State crews are jet flushing storm water inlets, catch basins and culverts to clean them out, and keep the water flowing. Drain line jets can cut through and force larger obstacles out of sewer pipes — from branches and yard waste to items improperly disposed of by people.
Problems with Clogged Storm Drains
Cleaning out catch basins and the storm drains connected to them is part of Mid-State’s environmental cleaning service. Preventing standing water and puddles that can damage parking lot and street surfaces is a primary goal of regularly scheduled sewer and drain line jetting.
By professionally removing dirt, sand, trash, and other debris from storm water catch basins, you can ensure proper function of drainage systems and prevent storm sewer back-ups that cause flooding.
Within Oregon, building inspectors are most often responsible for helping ensure that storm water sewers are properly constructed, maintained, and cleaned on a regular schedule. Local inspectors working together with Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) also prevent contamination and degradation of Oregon’s groundwater resources.
Below you can see before and after photos showing a 54” main storm sewer line filled with debris and post-cleaning, running water through the sewer.
What Does the Sewer Jetter Tool Do?
Hydro jets use high-pressure water to clean catch basins, storm drains, laterals, and sewer lines. A 2-part nozzle attached to a flexible, high-strength hose is snaked down into a sewer drain and moved back and forth by the operator. The power of the jet nozzle process removes roots, grease, and any buildup along the way. In some high-growth situations with invasive roots, an actual cutting tool is also used at the leading edge.
Our crew’s hydro jetting system can SAFELY break through clogs in your pipes, and in the process, completely clean the pipe walls.
Pulsating water delivered from the front of the nozzle helps break down materials. The pulsing helps clear the way for additional jets at the rear of the nozzle that create a circular motion to further clean within the pipe. As the rear jets clean to the walls of the pipe, water pressure – between 1,500 – 2,000 PSI – also helps move the hose further down the sewer.
A Combined Approach – Routine Maintenance and DEQ Environmental Compliance
Drain line jetting and routine catch basin cleaning are vital to keep water flowing into storm drains and to prevent standing water and puddles that can damage parking lot and street surfaces. By professionally removing dirt, sand, trash, and other debris from storm water catch basins, you can ensure proper function of drainage systems and prevent storm sewer back-ups that cause flooding.
You may already be seeing slow moving storm water drainage or backed up water inlets. Or, you simply haven’t had your drain line serviced recently. By adding sewer jetting and storm drain vacuum cleaning to your preventative maintenance schedule, you can avoid damages from unexpected, extreme weather.
If sewers and water drainage lines are not cleared regularly, they also become harmful to the environment. Capturing and containing pollutants directly at their points of origin promotes cleaner water. Due to local, state, and federal environmental regulations, many cities throughout Oregon require regular drain line inspecting and cleaning.
With a goal of preventing or reducing pollutant runoff from municipal operations into the storm sewer systems of Lane County, (Eugene and Springfield, OR) Mid-State Industrial Service also carries absorbent media. These absorbents protect a catch basin and are designed to absorb petroleum-based products (gasoline, oil, etc.) and metals to prevent contamination.
Mid-State Industrial’s sewer and drain line cleaning services ensure that you are meeting your community’s requirements and staying compliant. An important fact that differentiates us from some others that clean out storm drains — all debris that our vacuum trucks remove is disposed of properly – and legally!
